In an area bursting with "Italian" restaurants, this place clearly stands a step above. Relatively compact menu but each dish is a well composed, satisfying option. The Veal Porterhouse is an obvious choice for those looking for rich, meaty decadence. Served with a Marsala spiked Porcini risotto and grilled Asparagus spears, it delivers all you would hope. I'm a fan of their seafood options. Nice to see a kitchen that knows how to put a sear on a scallop but leave the melting translucent center intact. Pair a few of these with large prawns on a bed of sweet pea and Parmesan risotto with a moat of red pepper puree and basil oil and each bite is a new adventure. Really, it's hard to go wrong here. The service is always on point. The wine list is decent, although not overly creative, but then living here I can hardly blame them.

Had dinner here tonight with a group of good friends and every one of us loved it! Everything from appetizers to each of our meals was beyond delicious. I had the breaded lobster and shrimp with angel hair pasta in a lemon butter sauce, the dish contained a whole lobster tail, the waiter said it would be 6 ounces but I swear mine was larger than that and the dish was superb as was my desert the chocolate melting cake with vanilla ice cream and cappuccino and even that was special, served with a rock candy stir. The service too was great our waiter Manny was excellent. The place is a bit pricy but well worth it, can't recommend it enough.

Great food all around. Our server was over loaded but got everything right. Nice bar, nice location, atmosphere could be improved some but for one of those nice strip mall places, the place is ok.

This place is amazing! The service was fantastic, food great, even the bathrooms are cool. The only thing they could improve is location. You would never expect something so great in a strip mall. Time to move to a free standing building or in gulfcoast or coconut point. Great stuff though!!

We have eaten there twice and both times were fantastic. Food , Drinks And service were outstanding. And it was priced very fairly. We will go back again, soon.

Nice dinner...pleasant experience. Deegan was aiming to please. Great veal bistello and filet dinners...we will return while on Sanibel.

Don't often come here...now I wonder why. I would consider this among the top 3 restaurants in Fort Myers. Food and service are both top notch. Prices are a bit higher than most, but in terms of value, well worth it.

Again: we went there over Christmas and this place serves the best authentic italian food in town!

One of our favorites - we drive 30 minutes to get here. Non-Chain, great food, great atmosphere - well worth your time and money to go here!

I'm a New Yorker who went to highschool/middle school in Fart Myers and I'm down visiting my folks. We had a truly great meal from beginning to end at Cibo's tonight. Wally the waiter (no joke, that was his name!) was a great guy, as was the hostess. Calamari was very light and flavorful; cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth with great sauces and an arugula salad. My dinner of pulled pork ravioli sounded strange to my parents, but I had a feeling it was going to be awesome and sure enough it was. The slightly 'lemoned' cannoli was a great ending, along with the wonderful wine. Only issue was the portions were too big...my meal was a special, so it was average size. But my parents got something off the menu and they were ridiculously two portions dumped onto one plate, as was the dessert (who provides two full-size cannoli for one?). Americans are already too fat and food is best enjoyed when the portions are fit for human consumption not obese consumption. It's a little gross when there is that much chow on your plate, so I'd hold back a little and have us craving more rather than reaching for the tums from over-eating. That's why they don't get 5 stars.

This is by far the best Italian meal around. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and the host was great. Thanks for a great night.

I was skeptical about an Italian place in Florida, since I'm a snobby NYC elitist. As it turned out, the place was really nice. The food was excellent, generous portions. The bread came around with olive paste, butter, and olive oil. I ordered Penne Vodka, of course. They did a great job with it. For dessert we had a chocolate volcano cake, topped off with a scoop of ice cream, which was also excellent. Cafe Cibo had a nice atmosphere and cute little bar on the other side opposite the dining area. The hostess and waitress were both dolls as well.

Cafe Cibo is a tiny (maybe 12 table) restaurant in Bridge Plaza that's often quite full. I've been for lunch a half dozen times and always enjoyed myself (especially the caprese salad...the mozzarella is some of the best i've tasted, and they use a wonderfully rich balsamic 'syrup' to dj the mouth party the salad creates), though i've stayed fairly basic, having salads and water. but i recently went for dinner with a friend and had a proper experience, with wine and without workout shorts on. our waitress recognized me from lunch visits and paid the perfect amount of attention to our table, despite her full section. we started off with a slight variation on the caprese salad, with multicolored baby tomatoes and a bit of basil oil to contrast with the balsamic drizzled mozzarella. amazing. next we both had risotto (i think it was pistachio, but i had a bit of chardonnay) with skewered scallops and shrimp. the scallops were charred the way i like, giving the outside some bite with a perfect tenderness inside. we cleaned our plates. dessert was vanilla creme brulee, not too eggy, with a crunchy skin. i'm looking forward to hitting up this spot again.

This place is all around amazing! It's the finest Italian food I've ever had in Florida. The specials are creative and delicious. You have to say hi to Mary Pat, hostess and owner, as she adds fun to this already great atmosphere.

This was only my second time at Cibo's, and I already feel comfortable updating my previous review from a 4, and giving them an easy 5 stars. There was the same nice upscale atmosphere and friendly, attentive, and personal service on account of our favorite server, Wally. This time we got the clams and calamari appetizers. My only complaint was that there wasn't more for me to stuff into my face. I also ordered the shrimp scampi special they had for the day and really enjoyed it. The angel hair pasta was great with the lemon ginger sauce and jumbo shrimp. Overall a great dish. Their cappuccino for dessert is amazing and I highly recommend it. The reason Cibo's gets a step up from their previous 4 star review is because of the consistency and quality of food. Both times I've eaten there I was impressed and have yet to find anything negative to comment on. While I am no regular patron, every meal has distinguished Cibo's apart from any other Italian restaurant I've been to in a long time. The level of service and satisfaction brought in every dish I've had exemplifies what I am looking for in a classy, yet cozy restaurant. Although the prices may bring along certain expectations, I would gladly pay that, and then some, to enjoy an awesome meal and great time at Cibo's. Keep up the good work!

Wow, was this a good meal. One of my friends had the lasagna, which was the size of a meatloaf but with a wonderful texture and taste. The other had this lobster/shrimp concoction over angel hair, while I had a shrimp penne pasta with a vodka cream sauce that was outstanding. I think the only shrimp they allow on the plate is the huge 8U type. It was probably funny watching three big guys of various ages scarfing off each others plates like we were kids. The Cesar Salads were on the mark and the service was over the top, especially considering we came in at closing time and had the last meal before the kitchen closed. Great job!

I want to say that I am giving this establishment a close 3 stars. I made the reservation on the phone with Dan. The phone message said the workers come in at 3pm and calls would be returned. He was able to fit me in after work at 830pm. When I got there,I sat at the bar. I got to watch Pepe in action. The patrons were live and bubbly. I met Nancy, Al and Karen. My water was served up right away. I may come again if there is an UYE so I'll get to try some other stuff. I wasn't overly impressed with anything I ordered. The bread came out and that was pretty good. They served hot with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, soft butter and some tomato based mix. I then ordered the carpaccio. I found the meat stuck to the plate. It didn't seemed rubbed with olive oil and garlic. No vinaigrette and the capers were dry. I had the clams. Unfortunately, two were closed and about 10 were empty. I had the Caprese. The beef steak tomato didn't taste vine ripened. The basil was tasteless and the mozzarella didn't really accompany the appetizer. I think more balsamic vinegar would have been nice. For my entree, I had the lamb loin. It was done ok. I asked for medium rare. The reduction sauce was ok and I really liked the mint sauce. The asparagus was thick and tasty. The mashed potato left something to be desired. I decided not to have a dessert. I figured I could have a creme brûlée or tiramisu anywhere so I wanted to try the cannoli. By the recommendations of the usuals, I took the check. Greg, I think is the owner, sat at the bar (Dan is the brother), but I don't feel he took an interest in the patrons. I didn't try to strike up a conversation with him anyway.

Great Italian food. Had the veal scaloppini. It was very good. Others had scallops which were large. Service very good. Make reservations they get crowded. Appertizers are small.

Cibo has a wonderful menu offering a variety of apps and main courses. There is something for your beef eaters, seafood fare and vegans too! Largely italian based. The meatballs are a meal in themselves! Truly a nice bar - a place to meet with friends - very social great for singles too. The staff are super friendly and very experienced. The owners have done an outstanding job with Cibo and are very attentive to their guests. Be sure to make a reservation they book out fast!

Superb restaurant. Hands down the best meal I've had, both for quality of food and attention from all staff. From the hostess, to the bartender, to our server Jeff, not one person working here failed to throw a smile when looked at or respond instantly to the smallest request. Great service! The quality of service is only outdone by the quality of the food.... Now I can't remember precisely what each Italian dish was called, but I started with the roasted beet and goat cheese salad - wicked good. My entree was a penne pasta with chicken and sausage and basil and garlic and olive oil - super tasty! My girlfriend had the shrimp appetizer....omg! Best tasting shrimp I've ever had the pleasure of trying. The carpaccio: rich and vibrant. Tiramisu to finish was sweet and decadent yet light and fluffy. We had a bottle of wine as recommended by Jeff. Excellent. All in all, will recommend Cibo's every day if the week to anyone. Go forth and enjoy.

This is my new favorite restaurant in Ft Myers. It's in a old strip mall but you would never feel that as you walk thru the doors. Nice decorated and warm. Also popular and crowded so I recommend reservations. Pepe the bartender is awesome. Hooked us up with some Italian wine and suggested a few appetizers. The risotto is to die for. We tried the beet salad and their famous meatball which puts my Italian Grandmas recipe to shame. Only here for a week and went there twice. Will definitely be back bringing all my friends next time. Great tastes and presentations. Loved!! Loved!! Don't miss this place!!!!

Awesome food, awesome atmosphere. If you're in the fort Myers area this is a great Italian restaurant to try. The service was great from the hostess to every server in the restaurant. You have to call for reservations because it gets packed! Well worth the wait. Delicious food!

This is my favorite restaurant. I have never had a bad experience here. The food is excellent and the service is always great. It is small and intimate so make a reservation. Otherwise, a quaint bar area with wonderful apps if you have to wait!

Ok, so I'm Italian and from Rhode Island. We have the BEST restaurants so that makes me a wee bit picky. I always proceed with caution when going to a new Italian establishment. Some new friends suggested taking us to Cibo. Well, I have to brag because the food was outstanding. The waiter recommended the meatballs. Again, I tossed that idea back and forth because I never order meatballs out anywhere. I make my Grandmother"s meatballs and I know exactly what goes into them. But the waiter insisted they were excellent and a guest favorite, so I bit. He was right. They were tasty and the consistency was very good.. My husband ordered the eggplant. Another iffy item. It's my signature dish. It has to be sliced just right and the skin has to be removed. It needs to be crisped up in a pan and then baked. Their description seemed to fit the bill. Well I have to admit that it was one of the best eggplant parms we have ever ordered out. The whole dining experience was wonderful. The atmosphere was warm and romantic. The staff was helpful and engaging and the food was wonderful. OOH, even the bread was awesome. Love warm bread and dipping oil. I look forward to our next visit.

I went to Café Cibo for my first time with some work colleagues. Our server's name was Deegan. Despite being an unapologetic Irish man working in an Italian restaurant, he was both attentive and knowledgeable. He shared with us the catch of the day and chef's specials like a poet laureate. The food was delicious, starting with the complimentary oven fresh break and dipping trio, including the appetizers (we had the calamari and the gnocchi), and the main courses. The portions are quite large, and you could easily share both the appetizers and main dishes and leave satisfied. The wine selection and imported beer list is extensive. I'd like to see some local craft beer offerings or a few more bottled craft choices. The restaurant is in a strip mall. You can't take that away from the first impression. Once the doors open, you are transcended into a warm, welcoming, sophisticated restaurant. The bathrooms are surprisingly need, and remind me of a Hyatt in Asia. I guess the experience once you walk through the doors into the restaurant make up for the location. In the case of Cibo, the end does justify the means.

We have been visiting Cibo for years and I keep waiting for something negative to happen but it just never does. The food is always incredible. My favorites are the veal chop, the lamb and the Plumpjack Merlot that, for me, goes with everything. My hubby loves the Chicken Parmigiana and their steaks are great cuts cooked perfectly to temperature. The side dishes are just enough to compliment the main course without being fussy. From the time that our favorite gastronomical tour guide, James, sets down the fresh bread with the black olive tapenade until we lick the last of our tiramisu off of our spoons it is a delicious & delightful ride. Reservations are a must during peak season!

I live pretty close to this place and for some reason have never gone there until last night. We got there around 5:30ish and when we left around 7:00 the place was packed, and it was a Monday night off season. I was impressed with the interior although we sat in the bar area. The menu seemed limited, but was filled with wonderful options. Manny, behind the bar, was very attentive and helpful. The clientele was mixed and very friendly. We were both amazed at how good our dishes were, not only in taste, but in beauty as well. The service was great and the place is very clean. The staff looked professional and all were knowledgeable about the wines and dinner selections. I"d go back in a heart beat!

We went here for dinner a week ago. I have been there a few times before and always had great meals. And again, the food was excellent. I absolutely love their chicken marsala. I would have rated it a 5 but we had poor service. Apparently we were the only table our server had on the other side of the room because he kept forgetting about us. We ordered an appetizer that we misunderstood the description of and when we told him, he was very condescending and acted like we should have known prosciutto is RAW beef. Well I didn't know because I don't remember ever trying it. I eat out a lot and try new things but this just wasn't one of them. I was trying something new. He even pointed to the menu and told me I should have known it was raw beef....of course, I pointed out that it didn't say that, it said beef tenderloins. I felt like an idiot and apparently he could sense that I didn't want to speak with him anymore because he rarely came back. With empty drinks, we had to ask other servers for drink refills and the manager as well. He came by and cleared some dishes but didn't notice the empty drink we blatantly sat at the edge of the table, he zipped off so fast we couldn't ask him for another. It took forever to get our check while he carried on lengthy conversations with customers on the other side of the room. Thank goodness the tiramisu was delicious or our last memory would be of the poor service!

A great Italian restaurant in SW Florida - amazing. James is a great waiter too. Two couples went last Saturday night and the place was packed. The service is low key but spot on. The carpaccio was described as fantastic. We also had the puff pastry appetizer but unsure if the 20 minutes to cook it was worth the wait. The three steaks - filet and strip - were great and cooked as ordered. Veal Marsala had great flavor but I will order it without breading next time. The spaghetti on the side was delicious, too. The creme brulee is enough to share and very smooth. We will definitely be back.

Nice place. Busy, and pretty good food. We had a reservation and were meeting another. We arrived a bit early, gave the reservation name and were seated to wait. The other person arrived early also, gave the reservation name and was seated in the next room. We were both SEATED & WAITING for the other. Knowing we are always prompt, after 15 minutes he called our cell phone to find out where we were, and, of course, we were in the next room. Let's get it together, guys. One demerit. Having said all that, this is still a fine restaurant. The filet was beautifully prepared and presented. My salmon was rather ho-hum, and the pasta bolognese was just fine. They have an excellent wine list, so you'll leave happy.

I've been here twice. Cibo, pronounced Cheebo. It's Italian for meal or food. The first time I ate here I wondered why I had never eaten here. The food and service was 5 Star. I savored each forkful as I hadn't tasted food this excellent since I first ate at Traders (it was Sunshine Café at the time). I started with their wonderful Spinaci salad which consisted of Baby Spinach, Gorgonzola Cheese, Apples, Toasted Walnuts, Bacon,Glazed Red Onions, Aged Sherry Walnut Vinaigrette. Then my main menu choice was the delightful and wonderful : SPIEDINI DI GAMBERONI & CAPUSANTE Grilled Shrimp, Scallops, Parmesan & Sweet Pea Risotto,Thyme Beurre Blanc, Red Pepper Puree, Basil Oil. Which was a feast for my palate. Last night I returned and had one of the best specials ever. It was their filet Mignon with lobster tail on a bed of mashed potato and asparagus. They had a cream sauce off to one side of the plate and a dark au jus on the other side of the plate. It looked like a yin and yang plate. Wish I remembered what the sauces were but trust me when I tell you that your mouth would have felt like it went to heaven. Make reservations, especially on the weekend, and ask for Jeff. Last night the restaurant and bar area was full even though season is over.

If you've ever been to Fort Myers, you know there are strip malls everywhere. In one of them you'll find Cibo, a nondescript Italian restaurant that gives off a pretty homey feel once you step inside. From the moment we got there, my party of three was well taken care of. The host was gracious in seating us, wishing us a great meal, while our waiter, Wally, was an absolute delight. My plaudits must stop there, however, as the food was pretty disappointing. I enjoyed the salumi plate that we shared to start, but some of the offerings, like the housemade mozzarella, were a little bland. The Gnocchi con Fungi, despite its unappetizing name, was probably the best thing we had all night. They were light and fluffy, and coated in the most delicious marsala cream sauce. My entree, a 16oz strip steak with a marsala demi glace, was on special, but it disappointed me mightily. For one, I asked for it medium rare and it came out medium (perhaps even closer to medium well). In addition, the flavor of the meat was lacking, and what little there was was overpowered by a black peppercorn crust that wasn't even advertised. The polenta that accompanied it tasted of little more than plain cornmeal, and a side of broccolini was altogether unremarkable. For $42, I would expect MUCH better. (This must have been the most expensive thing on the menu. Whoops. Make sure to ask how much the specials are before you get too crazy.) Dessert, a cappuccino cheesecake with an Oreo cookie crust, was pretty good, but tasted nothing like cappuccino. I guess the kitchen forgot to add the flavor? The same could be said of most things we had that night...

Well, in full disclosure we did not have a reservation. But we were fine to wait especially for good food as this place has been rated. Walked in and was ignored for a few minutes while the "greeter" (I use that term lightly) discussed table placement with a 4-some who was over an hour late. Finally got to ask about a table to be told "I got nothin for 45 minutes". Truth be told, the food could be the best but a shitty attitude kills a good meal. Ended up two doors down for an awesome dinner with friendly staff at Caffe Toscano. No need to try a new place.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
